leaveten's Diaryland Diary

another exmyspace blog.

since i haven't had a good book to read..

i've been reading articles and mini biographies.

"An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind."-Mahatma Gandhi.

well, i've been reading up on stuff. take what you will from it.

has anyone else heard of the Amy Biehl case? if not, you should read up on it. i think it's something that's important to understand. especially in terms of her parents reaction. she was murdered in south africa by a political group black men, quite brutally, and instead of imprisoning those who murdered her, her parents created the Amy Biehl Foundation in order to rescue black kids who would be victims of violence. furthermore, they employed the two chief murderers.

"There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for." -Gandhi.

"We have the capacity to feed everybody on our planet. We have the capacity to ensure that everybody has clean water. We have the capacity to ensure that everybody has affordable health care. We have the capacity to ensure that every child gets the inoculations that they ought to have as children. We can prevent many of the diseases to which our childrenin the poorer parts of the world succumb. For goodness sake. Why don't we wake up to the fact that you can't have an apartheid security. You can't have an apartheid prosperity. If you are going to have security, it's going to be security for all. If you are going to have prosperity, it's going to be prosperity for all. If you want to be free, you can't have a quarantine freedom. It's going to be a freedom for all. And if you want to be human, we are not going to be able to be human in isolation. It will be that we are human together" -Archbishop Desmond Tutu

honestly, i can't type up much more without avoiding some sort of bias. cause i'm really at that point. i just don't get how we can enjoy our luxuries while others strive for maybe 1/100th of what we have. places in the world are not even assured clean water. at that point i think something has to be done. i find it hard to believe we all sleep at night knowing that so many people are dying and we can do something about it, but we don't. it would be such a great day when people start to realize there are issues more important than where you buy your cloths and how expensive your jeans are. i'm not saying lets all be one sided, but would kill to make some sort of contribution? because it would kill not to. i know awareness isnt an issue, i think we're all so aware we've become accustomed to tragedy. we shouldn't be. the only thing i'm trying to say is have a heart. i know this will go ignored.
